The following page shows a bit of what I do to pass my spare (!) time (as well as read of course, …oh, and keep an art journal, and play with the computer and the cats!... )After my MS diagnosis in 2000, and because it was no longer possible for me to do what I did (I was an opera singer), I took myself off to the University of the Arts London (“mature” student!) to do a degree in Costume & Design (graduated ‘04) thinking that I would at least be able to keep in the ‘business’… But of course, I find the reality of MS means that I haven’t the physical strength or speed to be around the theatre any more.
So….…In the search to find something that will ‘float my boat’ and provide me with the fulfilment that my career as a singer did, I have been throwing myself into all sorts of diverse things - art classes, jewellery making, desk-top publishing, collage, digital art, alternative therapies etc….and right now I am studying again, only this time it is Counselling and other related disciplines. I believe there is a need for people to be able to speak to counsellors who have real first-hand experience of the disease and who know on a fundamental level just what having MS is all about and, right now, I’m on a personal journey to try gain the qualifications I need to begin to provide just that. Having said all this…..
